Lubbock has many theaters, upscale restaurants and cultural attractions. The birthplace of Buddy Holly, Lubbock hosts a cultural center and music festival in his name. The city is the economic, education and healthcare hub of the South Plains Region. It is the largest contiguous cotton-growing region in the world. Education is important to Lubbock with four Colleges and Universities, Texas Tech, Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Lubbock Christian, Wayland Baptist and South Plains College.
