FBI Updates Boston’s Digital ‘Wanted’ Billboards With Bombing Suspect (

The FBI has updated a number of digital billboards in the Boston metro area with a wanted sign of Dzhokar Tsarnaev, the at-large suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. The FBI confirmed to ABC News that the digital signage in the area was updated this morning and, as of right now, is live only in the Boston area. However, there have been reports of the sign appearing in New Jersey.

Digital billboards are like regular billboards that line highways and roads, but have large digital screens – instead of paper or plaster – that can be easily updated. The FBI teamed up in 2008 with Clear Channel Outdoor, Lamar Advertising and other digital billboard owners to display images and information about suspects and “most wanted” individuals. A year after launching the project, the FBI said it has been a successful way to find people.

“Long story short: The billboards are working and working well. And that means a safer America for all,” the FBI wrote on its site at the time.

One suspect in this week’s deadly Boston Marathon bombing died early this morning after a police shootout. His younger brother Dzhokar Tsarnaev remains at large and the subject of a manhunt in the Boston area.

Boston residents have been put on lockdown while authorities search for him.
