At Lamar Advertising, we are committed to the environment. Energy efficiency is one of our main goals. Lamar has installed over 10,000 LED lights on billboard structures in Florida, Louisiana and the Northeast, resulting in a 73% reduction in energy consumption.
In Roanoke, we're replacing our digital billboard panels with energy-efficient LED lights.
Check out the photos below for a behind-the-scenes look at how this is accomplished.
This digital billboard panel is being completely replaced with energy-efficient LED lights. The crane is set up, and our operations team begins cutting the steel holding the panel to the structure.
Next, the team sprays water to douse any sparks from the torch used to cut the metal.
The opposite side of the structure is being re-faced rather than completely replaced. You can see half of the new re-facing completed on the left side. The right side is the old lighting system and damage is visible.
At this point, only a few more cuts are necessary and then the panel will be free.
The panel has been safely removed!
The crane operator skillfully maneuvers the panel away from the billboard structure.
Here's a great view of the panel that has been removed from the billboard. It’s amazing how large these panels are up close!
Not much further!
Almost there!
The panel is safely moved to the ground. Job well done!
In the two photos above, you can see the bare structure without the panel attached.
The installation of the new panel with LED lights went just as smoothly as the removal of the old one. This is just one of the ways in which Lamar is improving operational and energy efficiency, while minimizing our impact on the environment.
