First Illuminated 3D Tanning Bed Billboard Turns on Summer in Lima, OH

Lamar Advertising Company’s 3D Billboard Lights Up Sun Central Tanning’s Campaign

Baton Rouge, LA – April 30, 2015 – Lamar Advertising Company (Nasdaq: LAMR) and Sun Central Tanning are bringing the first illuminated, 3D billboard to Lima, OH. With summer just around the corner, the new innovative out-of-home advertising campaign reminds people to go to Sun Central Tanning to achieve the perfect summer bronze tan.

The campaign is running on one of Lamar’s poster billboards in Lima, and the design features an eye-catching 3D pop-out tanning bed extension. In addition to the 3D component, the billboard includes built-in lighting, making the billboard fully visible at all times. The board is illuminated day and night, but the full effect is best achieved at times when tanning is most desired: when the sun is not bright. On overcast days the tanning bed glows, and at dusk, dawn, and overnight the appearance is striking.

“This time of year, especially after such a long winter, it is important to remind people that summer, and therefore swimsuits, is just around the corner,” said Michele Manley, owner of Sun Central Tanning.  “We are always looking for ways to expand our business. When Kurt Recker from Lamar Advertising came to me with his ideas for this billboard, I thought it would be a great way to give our customers a bit of hope that suntan season is nearly upon us.”

The design is simple and straightforward: a dark background with Sun Central Tanning’s logo and slogan, “The Best & Brightest,” below the tanning bed creates brand awareness and points consumers to their location. The tanning bed component is a 9 x 16 foot pop-out extension anchored to the face of the poster, which extends above the frame, going beyond the boundaries of the billboard space. LED strip lighting was used to illuminate the design, giving the tanning bed its realistic allure.

Lamar Advertising Company’s artist in Toledo designed the creative, and the custom 3D extension was produced in-house by its Lamar Graphics division.

“We’re always looking for the most innovative ways to help our customers stand out, and I thought this unique, eye-catching design would be the perfect way to increase visibility for Sun Central Tanning,” said Lamar Advertising Company Account Executive Kurt Recker. “This is the first 3D illuminated billboard in Lima, and it has been exciting to see the idea come to life.”

Lamar Advertising produces custom 3D objects at its Lamar Graphics facility in Baton Rouge, and Sun Central Tanning took advantage of this opportunity for their new campaign concept.

The billboard is located on Allentown Road in Lima, OH, and the campaign will run through July 19, 2015. For more information about advertising in Toledo-Northwest Ohio, please visit
