Baton Rouge, LA – September 27, 2011 – Baton Rouge-based Lamar Advertising Company (NASDAQ: LAMR) will begin handling all advertisements placed on SamTSarans public transit and transportation programs in the San Mateo County area. The SamTrans Board of Directors approved a contract award declaring Lamar Advertising the sales vendor of record for advertising placed on SamTrans buses. The contract begins October 1, 2011, and lasts for five years.
“We are pleased to extend our business relationship with SamTrans public transit and transportation programs,” said Lamar Advertising General Manager Casey Sexton. “We look forward to successful execution of the new contract.”
SamTrans buses serve San Mateo County, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Routes cover most of the San Francisco Peninsula just south of San Francisco, and north of Santa Clara County. Approximately 718,000 people live in San Mateo’s 446 square mile service area. With more than 300 vehicles circulating more than 10MM miles annually, SamTrans service provides Peninsula travelers with hundreds of daily trips along the Bayshore corridor between Palo Alto and downtown San Francisco. Commute service to San Francisco is provided along El Camino Real and Mission Street in the north county. Hundreds of other daily trips serve San Francisco International Airport, Caltrain stations, BART stations and the 20 cities which make up San Mateo County. In addition to expansive market circulation, annual ridership exceeds 15.5MM annually.
Lamar Advertising presently sells transit advertising in Santa Clara, Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, located in the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose Designated Market Area (DMA). San Mateo County coverage via SamTrans increases Lamar’s ability to provide advertising clients with audience reach in the San Francisco DMA, an area where other out-of home advertising options are limited or restricted. The new system expands Lamar Transit’s footprint in the Bay Area to a coverage area exceeding 4 million people.
