Baton Rouge, LA – September 23, 2010 – Lamar Advertising Company (Nasdaq: LAMR), a leading owner and operator of outdoor advertising and logo sign displays, has launched a digital billboard campaign with ESPNU and MacDonald Media. Fifteen digital billboards across college campuses in the Baton Rouge, Nashville, Charlotte and Birmingham markets currently display schedule information in the days leading up to the game and then provide real time score updates and other information on game day. Utilizing iSpot technology, Lamar’s digital billboards update fans in real time by pulling data from ESPN’s website. The scores are sent via RSS/XML feed updating digital content every 2-5 seconds,” said Lamar Digital Strategist Ian Dallimore. “This is a great example of how outdoor advertising can drive traffic to television. This campaign has been both unique and very successful for ESPNU and college football.”
Throughout the week, ESPNU rotates content to promote the ESPNU Tailgate show and the ESPNU Saturday game, driving university traffic to ESPNU on 15 billboards in Southern college markets. On Saturday, the display changes to ESPNU Tailgate Today rotating with the game that night. At kick off, the digital billboard immediately transforms into a live score board. At the end of each game, the content instantly updates to the next game in the slot. In addition to the current ESPNU campaign, Lamar worked with MacDonald Media for the 2009 and 2010 ESPN NBA FINALS and utilized the iSpot technology with live score capabilities on digital displays nationwide.
