Lamar Advertising and Rareform Partner to Repurpose All Billboard Material

LA company will convert used billboards into consumer products and plastic shipping pallets

Rareform

Baton Rouge, LA – June 26, 2019 – Lamar Advertising Company (Nasdaq: LAMR), one of the largest out of home media (OOH) companies in the world, today announced the formation of a partnership with Rareform, a recycling-based lifestyle brand specializing in converting billboard materials into high-quality products. This partnership will result in a dramatic increase in the recycling of used billboards from Lamar’s out of home campaigns.

Rareform will collect Lamar’s used polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene (PE) billboard material following Lamar’s use and repurpose these materials into a number of consumer and industrial products, from PVC tote bags, backpacks and duffel bags, to shipping pallets made from remelted PE. Through this partnership with Rareform, Lamar expects to repurpose over three million pounds of PE and two million pounds of PVC materials annually.

“We have always been committed to sustainable business practices at Lamar and have incorporated eco-friendly practices into our day-to-day business,” said Sean Reilly, CEO of Lamar Advertising Company. “In linking up with Rareform, we are deepening that commitment by giving billboards a second life and ensuring that no billboard winds up in a landfill.”

Lamar has long been an industry leader in reducing the environmental impact of OOH campaigns. Lamar led the industry in moving from poster paper to a recyclable polyethylene substrate on poster billboards, spearheaded the adoption of energy and cost-efficient light-monitoring systems, and was ahead of the industry in deploying energy-efficient LED lighting and solar panels on its billboards. Now, the partnership with Rareform will ensure that all billboard materials are revitalized as the company recycles Lamar PVC billboards into bags, accessories and other unique consumer products and converts PE billboards into plastic pallets.

“We are thrilled to have entered into a partnership with a company as committed to sustainable business practices as Lamar,” said Alec Avedissian, Rareform CEO. “With each billboard collected at our Los Angeles manufacturing facility, we will together reduce environmental impact while at the same time creating handcrafted, beautifully designed unique products for both consumers and businesses to enjoy and utilize.”
